John Thomas with his 1965 Ford Mustang was the winner of the ClassicLine sponsored 2019 Gemini Events Pride of Ownership awards at the Walsall Arboretum Classic Motor Show. After the event, we caught up with John to find out more about his stunning classic Mustang.

John has had a passion for American cars for many years. Prior to his current ’65 Mustang he has been the proud owner of a 1963 Ford Fairlie, a 1962/63 Mercury Comet S22, a 1965 Oldsmobile F85, a 1947 F1 Ford Pickup and well as two other 1965 Mustangs. CL: what a great collection John!

His current 1965 Ford Mustang is a Canadian import which John has owned for over two years. The car was in such great condition that John was able to jump straight in and start driving his new American classic.

John did commission a local classic car garage to reseal the power steering ram, but this is really the only work that the car has needed. Even the rare Phoenician Yellow paintwork is in pristine condition.

The Mustang is powered by 289 cubic inch V8 and automatic C4 gearbox. All the running gear is as standard. Completing the look, the car sits on a glistening set of American Racing Torq Thrust wheels.

John tells us that the interior is in excellent condition, although he is unsure if this is original, but it shows that the car has certainly been looked after by its previous Canadian owners.

So, with a great running American car, John regularly attends car shows and enjoys a cruise to his local country and western club at weekends. John and his ’65 Mustang also frequent visitors at “Greasy Wednesday”, a monthly meet held at the River Rooms in Stourbridge in the West Midlands.

Winning the Pride of Ownership concours at the Walsall Arboretum Classic Motor Show was in fact John’s first award with his 1965 Mustang, but we don’t expect it will be his last!

John will be attending the Classic & Retro Show at Himley Hall on the 1st September, so if you are going to this event make sure you take a moment to admire this fine-looking Mustang.

Voting has begun!
