Dragstalgia 2026 was a double celebration, marking 15 years since this hugely popular nostalgia drag racing event first roared into life, as well as the 60th anniversary of Santa Pod Raceway. So, what did the organisers have in store this year? An absolutely fantastic weekend, of course! Headlined by the Cannonball, Fuel Altereds, Funny Cars, Gassers and Dragsters, alongside a superb line up of entertainment and wall to wall sunshine, this was an event our roving reporter won’t be forgetting any time soon.
Arriving on Thursday to set up camp, the heatwave meant most people sensibly stayed in the shade until the sun began to dip below the horizon and the temperature became more forgiving. An evening stroll around the pits gave us the chance to catch up with racers and crews preparing for the weekend ahead. One of the highlights of Dragstalgia is the open pits, giving spectators the chance to get up close to the cars, chat with drivers and crews, and experience the atmosphere that makes nostalgia drag racing so special. There was a fantastic buzz throughout the pits, undoubtedly helped by the weather.
With overnight temperatures remaining well above 20°C, campers were up early to escape their hot tents and make the most of the day. Friday began much like Thursday, with scorching sunshine from the outset. It was a day for relaxing beneath a gazebo, browsing the Vintage Hub or cooling off in the Beer Festival tent, as anywhere with shade became the most sought after of spots.

Track temperatures also climbed, meaning racing activity was limited during the hottest part of the day as teams waited for conditions to improve. Thankfully, as the evening arrived and the sun lost its intensity, qualifying got underway for some of the classes. After a few hours of racing and a campfire dinner, the day ended with an excellent performance from rock ‘n’ roll favourites, The Boulevards.
Saturday is always the main day of Dragstalgia. One of the many benefits of being an NSRA member is access to the VIP Startline Suite, perched directly above the burnout box and start line. From here, you experience everything that makes drag racing so addictive, the noise, the smell of burning rubber and methanol, and the sheer intensity as the cars launch towards the end of the quarter mile track.
After a morning enjoying the racing from one of the best viewpoints at Santa Pod, it was time to visit the Historic Display Marquee for the announcement of the latest British Drag Racing Hall of Fame inductees. This year’s honours recognised an outstanding group of individuals and organisations who have made lasting contributions to British drag racing.

Among those inducted were Syd McDonald, racer and key figure in the Allard Chrysler Action Group and the restoration of Sydney Allard’s original dragster; Team Triple R (Robin Read Racing), whose Daimler V8 nitro powered dragster has earned legendary status within UK drag racing; Phil Bainbridge, a leading figure in the Top Fuel Bike scene; and Andy Willsheer, celebrating an outstanding 50 year career in drag racing photojournalism. Also recognised were Motorsport UK, the governing body of British motorsport, and Tony Betts, the man behind the Venom Nostalgia Funny Car that always draws huge crowds whenever it fires into life.
Away from the racing, the National Street Rod Association once again hosted the show and shine within the Vintage Hub welcoming all hot rods, custom cars, American classics and vintage vehicles. The NSRA team were kept busy throughout the day chatting with visitors and promoting both the club and the forthcoming NSRA Hot Rod Supernationals.
As evening fell, football fans gathered to watch England take on Panama, with the match screened onsite, whilst the entertainment continued with an energetic performance from The Firebirds in the Fuellers Bar.

By Sunday, temperatures had eased slightly, making for much more comfortable conditions both for spectators and competitors. Cooler air also meant more horsepower, something Nick Davis and the short wheelbase Hemi-powered Topolino Fuel Altered, No Quarter, took full advantage of. The team recorded a stunning new personal best, blasting into the six second zone with a 6.90 second pass at an impressive 218mph.
If you’ve never experienced nostalgia drag racing, make sure Dragstalgia at Santa Pod Raceway is firmly on your calendar for next year. With incredible racing, historic dragsters, live entertainment, friendly racers and one of the best atmospheres in British motorsport, it’s easy to see why this event continues to grow in popularity year after year.
