Life doesn’t get much better than driving through the beautiful Kent and Sussex countryside in your cherished classic car basking under the glorious June sunshine.
440 lucky participants got to experience just that on Sunday 2nd June 2019.
The annual GE Motor Events London to Brighton Classic and Kit & Sports Car Run, which has been running for over 30 years, started in Greenwich Park early on Sunday morning. The first leg of the route took the group to Chiddingstone Castle near Edenbridge, Kent, where it was time for a quick leg stretch and refreshment break – very welcomed in the 20+ degree heat! The convoy then continued through Sussex to the finish line in Brighton along the famous Madeira Drive.
This years Run which was sponsored by ClassicLine Insurance included a diverse mix of vehicles. The earliest vintage car entrant was a 1915 Ford Model T Speedster which took part in the Classic Car Run. The Kit & Sports Car Run featured many newer vehicles, including a 2018 all electric Jaguar i-Pace.
Rare classics also took part including a 1931 MG M Type Sportsmans Coupe, one of only 37 metal bodied coupes built and only three or four are still in existence. The kit cars were well supported too with a great selection of AC Cobras, Westfields and a fantastic 1987 Jaguar D-Type Replica – at 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds, this car sounds like fun!
Many of the classic cars joining this years Run have taken part in prestigious events like the 1398 Geneva Motor Show and more recent occasions including the Goodwood Revival.
We were also really excited to see ClassicLine competition winner, Damien Carrick, enjoying the Run in his 1965 MKIII Austin Healey 3000. Looking forward to seeing your photos Damien!
Our roving reporter went along to the event to capture a few of the classic cars arriving at the finish line. It sounds like a great day was had by all and we expect the seafront ice cream kiosks were kept busy with hot drivers in need of cooling down!
