How do you know when the hot-rodding season officially starts? Once the NSRA Southern Swap Meet has taken place of course!

Following a successful first event at North Weald Airfield in 2019, the NSRA returned to the venue for their popular swap meet and autojumble. The recent floods and bad weather, and of course the current Coronavirus outbreak, did not put visitors off and the event was another astounding success.

With a revamped entry system, the NSRA crew were up early and eager to welcome the 3,000 or so visitors and traders who support this annual event. By 9.30am, the queue of eager shoppers snaked round the public car and the efficient team operating the pay booths got everyone entered as quickly as possible. The crowds speak volumes – it is credit to the NSRA crew for putting on a popular event and proves that the hotrod and custom car scene is thriving!

Participants were armed with their shopping lists, radio flyer trolley carts and wallets of cash ready to bag parts and bargains for their project. But the Southern Swap Meet is so much more than just an autojumble. It’s a chance to catch up with friends that you haven’t seen since the last show the previous year. A chance to talk about what’s has been happening behind garage doors over winter and of course to make plans for the year ahead.

One of the highlights of the day was the area reserved for pre-1972 vehicle parking. Many took advantage of the break in the weather and cruised to the event in their pre-72 rod or custom, so this impromptu show ‘n’ shine proved popular. We hope you enjoy a few of our photos below…

Well done to the NSRA team on another successful event. We look forward to seeing you all at the NSRA Fun Run in June at Rutland Showground where our insurance experts will be at the show all weekend.
