This bank holiday weekend, the country was bathed in a blanket of sunshine, and Wheels Day at Rushmore Arena in Aldershot started off one of the hottest Easter weekends we’ve all enjoyed for several years.

Although we did not have a stand at the show this year as our team were attending two other events, our roving reporter went along as this is one event that cannot be missed (plus her hotrod was on a club stand too).

The promise of a dry field and warm weather had brought out the classics and it was great to see a full show field. The public swiftly followed as by 10am the site was packed!

We love Wheels Day because the show captures a little of everything. Rods and customs, American cars, classics, VDubs, plus many modern classics, all beaming and glistening in the sun. The car clubs put on some great displays too, including the Royal County Car Club, Mid Surrey Roadsters and The Detonators.

The Surrey Street Rodders first formed in 1974 and this year saw the 45th Wheels Day event. To celebrate the 45th anniversary of the show, the team were giving away 10 portable record players with a 45” record. Sadly, we didn’t have a winning raffle ticket – but one of these would be great to take to the shows this year…

Of course, the best part about Wheels Day is that it’s all for charity. We featured Surrey Street Rodders as our club of the month in our Spotlight On series back in May 2018. Club chairman, Jason Nicklen, told us about a few of the charities that the Club supports with the proceeds of Wheels Day, and we hope over the coming weeks to be able to update you on how much was raised at this year’s event.

So, after a great day of catching up with friends and wandering around the show field, the event came to a close with the prize giving ceremony. The winners included a fresh out Ford Popular with amazing airbrush artwork, a 1932 Ford 3 Window Coupe which took the NSRA pick, a stunning Chrysler 300 and beautiful red Mercedes taking the Best in Show award.

Thank you Surrey Street Rodders for a great day!

If you attended a show or event this bank holiday weekend, we would love to hear from you.
