Friday 15th April 2022 officially marks the day that Wheels Day was back!
After a 2-year break, this hot rod and custom car show was back for participants, visitors, and traders to enjoy, and we cannot tell you how good it felt to be catching up with clients and friends in person.
Held at Rushmoor Arena in Aldershot and organised by the Surrey Street Rodders, the team of helpers and volunteers put on a fantastic show as always. From early doors, there was a constant stream of show vehicles entering the arena and by mid-morning, the field was full with 900 vehicles on display.
Our stand was in a great location with a panoramic view of the show field and next to our friends at the National Street Rod Association, who are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year. Over the tannoy, John Price, compere and national treasure of the hot rod and drag racing world provided the backdrop for the day. John was joined by Radio Caroline and live music artists who kept everyone entertained. There was plenty to do for the whole family too. Colouring competitions, Easter egg giveaways for the younger visitors, and an array of trade stalls and vintage auto part traders for the bigger kids.
With so many varied and outstanding vehicles on display, to give you a flavour of the show here are just a few of our standout cars from the day. First on our list is John Hall’s black 1940 Ford Deluxe – we look forward to seeing more of this car this season! Moving around the show field, an immaculate 1957 creamy yellow GMC pickup and a red motorsport-styled 1968 Saab 96 v4 also caught our eye. Our pick of commercial and estate vehicles includes the Castrol motor oil sign-written 1954 Fordson Van parked near the ClassicLine stand and the lovely two-tone 1961 Ford Zodiac estate.
The race-spec Peppermint blue 1983 BMW E21 was quite special, as was the beautifully finished 1969 VW Camper T2 pickup. But our car of the show had to be the gold 1959 Chevrolet El Camino famously painted by custom car builder, Gene Winfield. We’ll think you’ll agree, it is rather special!
It was also brilliant to see Nick Butler’s 1976 Revenge C Cab back out and attending shows. Under Gerry’s Gaughan’s ownership, this iconic hot rod is being enjoyed to the maximum and brought back to life for a new generation of enthusiasts.
A full show field, a brilliant atmosphere and wall-to-wall sunshine made for an absolutely brilliant event. There will have been many sun-kissed but happy visitors heading home after a great day out!
Our next event is Spring Motorfest at Chetwynd Deer Park on Sunday 1st May 2022. ClassicLine is sponsoring the Daily Driver competition, so if you are heading along, we look forward to seeing you there.
Hope you enjoy the Wheels Day 2022 photos!
