Organised by the Surrey Street Rodders, Wheels Day has been a cornerstone of the UK’s hot rod and custom car scene since its debut in 1974. Widely considered as the season opener, the event once again brought enthusiasts and vehicle owners back together after the long winter. With Easter falling early this year, the classic British spring weather made its presence known, which meant coats, scarves and sturdy boots, although few brave souls still opted for shorts!

The fields of Newbury Showground were paced with a diverse display of vehicles ranging from street rods and hot rods, custom cars and dragsters, American cars, modern classics and performance, British vintage and classic cars, and historic vehicles. The traders around the edge of the fields all had a great view of the vehicles, including from our own ClassicLine Insurance stand.

The event delivered its usual lively atmosphere with family fun and entertainment, and accompanied by our favourite drag racing commentator, John Price with Radio Caroline on the mic. As a specialist in hot rod, custom and American car insurance, it was a busy day for our team catching up with clients and assisting new and prospective clients with insurance quotations and enquiries.

Although the first Wheels Day was held in 1974, the Covid pandemic meant that the show could not go ahead in 2021, making 2025 the 50th anniversary. The 51st show in 2026 proved just how loved and supported this event remains after more than half a century. At its heart Wheels Day is a 100% charitable non-profit car show. It provides the Surrey Street Rodders the opportunity to support so many worthwhile charities and causes throughout the year. Long may it continue!

Thanks Surrey Street Rodders for a brilliant day!

The ClassicLine team will be back on the road on Sunday 12th April 2026 for the Jaguar Spares Day, followed by Mustangs Supercharged with the Surrey Mustang Owners Club at the iconic Brooklands Museum on Saturday 25th April 2026.
