Firmly settled into its new home at Santa Pod Raceway, the 31st NSRA Hot Rod Drags was one of the highlights of 2019!

Taking place on the 13-15 September 2019, the hot rod ‘run what you brung’ sessions were more popular this year, as was the informal pre-73 show ‘n’ shine. The late-summer heatwave bathed the pit-side show area in sunshine, and with so many cars there, the area was full to bursting point with hot rods, American cars and customs.

On the track, the class racing was fantastic, with many new PB’s set. The Modified Ford 100e group got in plenty of runs and the Outlaw Anglia’s put on a crowd-pulling show. It was great to see a number of the NSRA under 29’s members supporting the event and taking part in the action too.

The cracklefest on Saturday evening was another event highlight featuring a selection of Wild Bunch dragsters, Willy’s Coupes and Gasser Circus members. You can see our video of the jet powered funny car at the cracklefest on our YouTube channel – be warned, it’s LOUD!

Alan Martin from the NSRA said, “Wow! What a weekend that was. Blessed with such good weather, we welcomed participants from far and wide, including France and Switzerland. From lunchtime on Thursday, Santa Pod was literally buzzing. We can’t thank the staff and crew at the track enough for their tireless efforts but most of all, we have to thank each and every person that came to share our vision of ‘A Rod Run that happens to take place at a Race Track’. You all ARE the event. We’ll see you at the track next year”.

Although the summer hot-rodding season is drawing to a close, there is still one more NSRA event on the calendar – the NSRA Northern Swap Meet. Taking place on the 20th October, this is a chance to pick up vintage autoparts for your winter rodding or restoration project. If you are planning a winter project, don’t forget about laid-up insurance cover which is advisable given the amount of time and effort you will have invested in your project.
